The Culture of Fear
By posting this video (below) I am not advocating that we ride our bikes without helmets. I know how disturbing this would be to suggest to some of you. And just because I personally haven't ridden with a helmet for 2+ seasons, it doesn't mean that it would be the right decision for you.
I post this vid because I reject the notion of fear for fear's sake. I believe many of our daily decisions are made out of deliberately developed culture of fear.
Many times our irrational fears are due to nothing more than a lack of comprehension or understanding. Other times these fears are put upon us by those who would profit from these unfounded beliefs.
Watch the vid below. Again, I'm not advocating you ride without a helmet. However it is interesting to note that something we blindly value so highly in American culture (helmet safety), can be called into question. Now, if something like helmet safety can be questionable, I wonder, what other values left previously unquestioned, might be ACTUALLY inhibiting our progress?
